A status update on Sidney Crosby and it's very bad news for Pens fans

Midway through Game 5, Sidney Crosby collided with Jacob Trouba in an awkward looking play that resulted in Trouba catching Crosby with his elbow in the head. By no means was Trouba attempting to hit Crosby in the head and after watching the replay multiple times it looks as though Trouba was caught in between reaching for the puck and avoiding contact with Crosby.

As Emily Kaplan confirmed the worst case below, Crosby has indeed been diagnosed with a concussion. It's his first concussion since his two year battle 8 seasons ago after getting an elbow from David Steckle in the Winter Classic. Not only is it terrible news for Crosby, who was playing some of the best hockey of his career, but for the Penguins who look to close out the Rangers tonight at home.

Still the best all around forward in the game, Crosby had been playing like he was in his mid 20s again while skating with Guentzel and Rust. Game 5 shifted completely in the Rangers' favour after he left the game and there was nothing the Penguins could do to change that. Not having Sid available for Game 6 and possibly Game 7 is a huge blow for them and has brought the Rangers right back into the series. Hopefully Sid recovers much faster from this one than he did his last and he's back on the ice in no time.
