Following their win over the Columbus Blue Jackets, Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin announced the team was shutting down former Leaf Ilya Mikheyev for the season. The Canucks continued to show how poorly they are being run this season by including in the release that Mikheyev suffered a torn ACL during the pre-season, yet instead of having surgery right away, they had him play through it.

For a guy basically playing on one leg, Mikheyev was having a productive season for the tire fire that is the Canucks. Through 46 games, Mikheyev had 13 goals and 28 points. Being in the first year of a 4-year deal he signed with the Canucks, his timeline for recovery has him scheduled to be ready for training camp.

With the Canucks admitting they are essentially selling everyone at the trade deadline, having Mikheyev out of the lineup for the remainder of the season increases their odds of tanking for Connor Bedard. After the March 3rd deadline, they will likely have no Bo Horvat, Conor Garland, Tyler Myers, Brock Boeser, Luke Schenn and possibly even Thatcher Demko.
