Former Leafs goaltender suffers yet another injury

Former Leafs goaltender suffers yet another injury

BY RYAN SMITHERAM
Former Leafs netminder Petr Mrazek left last night's win over Boston (yes, you read that correctly - the Blackhawks beat the Bruins) with another injury after making a pair of quick saves midway through the second period with the Hawks up 1-0. Following the game, Hawks Head Coach Luke Richardson provided an update confirming that Mrazek injured his groin.

This is the third separate groin injury Mrazek has suffered this season, with the last one being in November. Mrazek has played in 33 games for the Hawks this season posting a horrendous 8-19-3 record with a 3.63 GAA and .895 save percentage. Richardson also said post-game that this groin injury appears to be less severe than the last one he suffered at the beginning of December.

Mrazek was dealt to the Hawks by Leafs GM Kyle Dubas at last year's draft, along with a first round pick in the 2022 draft for a second round pick, which the Leafs used to select Fraser Minten. Minten has quickly become one of the Leafs' top prospects. Mrazek has another season on his contract that will see him earn $3.8M with the Hawks next season before becoming a UFA.
