Jack Hughes sets the record for longest recorded shift in NHL history; It's longer than you might think

New Jersey Devils phenom Jack Hughes recorded the longest shift in NHL history during his team's 6-4 loss to the New York Islanders on Friday evening. He played 7:30 of the last 8 minutes when Devils' head coach Lindy Ruff decided to pull the goalie but set the record by playing the final 6:02 of the game.

What was almost equally as impressive as the length of the shift was the fact that he blocked two shots towards the empty net, one that was going towards his face and one with his skates, just before he went the other way and set up Erik Haula for a dangerous chance in the slot to try and cut the deficit in half.

Hughes scored a goal, added an assist, took 2 shots on goal, blocked 2 shots, and played a game-high 26:13. On the season, he has 14 goals and 33 points in 27 games for the New Jersey Devils, who sit atop of the Metropolitan Division and 2nd in the NHL behind only the Boston Bruins. The Devils are off to an incredible start with an outstanding 21-5-1 record.
