Leafs prospect does something that hasn't been done by any Leafs prospect since Mitch Marner in 2015-16

Last night, Leaf prospect Ty Voit continued his impressive season for the Sarnia Sting of the OHL. After scoring two goals, en route to his team winning 6-1 over the Owen Sound Attack, Voit became the first Leafs prospect to hit the 100 point plateau in the OHL since Mitch Marner produced 116 points (39 goals & 77 assists) in 59 games with the London Knights back in 2015-16.

In 65 games this season, Voit currently sits second in OHL scoring with 101 points and first in the league in assists, with 79. His team is also having a strong season, as Sarnia currently sits third in the Western Conference of the OHL. The playoffs are scheduled to begin late next week. If the Sting are able to make a run, it seems certain that the 19-year-old Leafs prospect will need to be a huge part of that, something that would be excellent for his development.

Voit was originally drafted by the Maple Leafs in the 5th round (153rd overall) of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. He immediately showed promise, putting up a stellar season in the OHL last year in which he registered 80 points (26 goals & 54 assists) in 67 games. One knock on Voit may be his size. He is currently listed at 5-foot-9, and 151 pounds. While the NHL isn't so hung up on size anymore, I would still expect that Voit will need to fill out his frame and pack on some weight in order to make an impact at the NHL level. He'll likely look to add some weight this summer in anticipation of what could be his arrival in the AHL in the fall.
