As the Leafs get set to welcome Connor McDavid, Jack Campbell and the Edmonton Oilers to town to kick off their 4 game homestand, the players were asked about trying to defend and slow down the NHL's leading scorer. Captain John Tavares, who will make his return to the lineup after missing Tuesday's game, said facing McDavid is "exciting".

Personally, I wouldn't call trying to defend against McDavid "exciting", but rather exhausting. Morgan Rielly would agree, as it turns out. Rielly, when told about Tavares' comment, chimed in with a sly remark towards his captain saying, "he's never played defense."

Rielly would know best about being eaten alive by McDavid, as a few years ago, Connor turned him inside out before scoring what could've been the goal of the year at the time.

All Rielly did was react a half-second too late and McDavid basically broke his ankles before roofing one on Michael Hutchinson. With Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and William Nylander on one side and McDavid and Leon Drasaitl on the other, tonight will surely be a fun one. Too bad Jack Campbell won't be getting the nod. I'm sure Leafs Nation would love to see Soup allowing some softies while playing for the enemy this time around.
