One interesting connection between Kyle Dubas and Auston Matthews could spell disaster for the Leafs

The departure of Kyle Dubas has left lots of futures up in the air. From Sheldon Keefe's status to the future of Auston Matthews, William Nylander and Mitch Marner, the most important future that needs to be sorted is that of Matthews who is eligible to sign an extension on July 1st, the same day his no movement clause kicks in for the final year of his current contract.

Now that Matthews has no idea what direction the club is going in, negotiations will be much more difficult and he may very well decide to not sign an extension until training camp, late in the season, if at all. With Dubas leaving, one additional wrinkle was identified that could complicate matters further. Kyle Dubas is represented by Chris Armstrong of Wasserman. You know who else is represented by the same agency? Matthews.

Dubas' relationship with Matthews and his agent goes deeper than what many people knew given that both of their agents are likely in contact daily. While far-fetched (or not so far-fetched), this could lead to Matthews' agent negotiating out of spite, making an extension much more difficult to agree upon.
