This morning the Bruins finally announced they had resigned sure-fire Hall of Famer and 5-time Selke winner Patrice Bergeron to a 1-year, incentive filled deal worth up to $5M.

The incentive for Bergeron, to play 10 games and collect an additional $2.5M.. something that obviously won't be hard to do. The reason for the $2.5M games played bonus is so the Bruins have the ability to push the extra $2.5M to next year's cap so they have more flexibility this year.

Bergeron had said from the start, and after his surgery, that he would either retire or play with the Bruins. He confirmed to the media today when asked whether playing for his hometown team (the Habs) was ever a consideration that he never even considered signing in Montreal. Almost like he didn't want to end his career at home like, oh I don't know, Wayne Simmonds, Jason Spezza, and John Tavares to name a few.

Honestly though, it kind of sucks if you're the Habs, because there probably isn't a better role model to have Nick Suzuki develop his two-way game under. At this point in his career though, Bergeron has won everything there is to win and isn't chasing his first cup or anything so it makes sense for him to stay in Boston where his family has called home since he was 18 years-old.
