Player Safety could issue a suspension to Ryan McDonagh for the start of next season after hit on Helm

Remember when Kyle Clifford got a 5 minute major, a game misconduct and a 1-game suspension for hitting Ross Colton in Game 1 of the first round? Well midway through Game 6, Tampa's Ryan McDonagh may have thrown a worse hit on Darren Helm. Not only was it directly on the numbers, but Helm was 3 feet from the boards and McDonagh stopped to cross-check him.

Somehow, McDonagh only got 2 minutes and still felt like he needed to complain about it. He's lucky he only got 2 minutes, when it should've been no less than 5 and a game. Even with the season ending, it is possible that Player Safety will take a look at the hit. Perhaps you'll recall Mark Scheifele's hit on Montreal's Jake Evans during last year's playoffs. Scheifele's suspension was 4 games and because the Jets were swept, Scheifele had to serve the remainder of his suspension at the start of this season.

A suspension, while probably warranted, may not be issued due to the fact that the playoffs have now ended. It wouldn't shock me to see McDonagh issued a fine for boarding though at the very least. Just a dangerous, unnecessary play.
