The New York Rangers are expected to announce their new captain, and it's not who people may think it is. Per a report from ESPN's Kevin Weeks the Rangers have decided that hard-hitting defenseman Jacob Trouba will be named the team's next captain.

Trouba has been with the Rangers since the 2019-20 season. In 81 games this season, Trouba scored 39 points for the Rangers, putting up 11 goals and 28 assists. In the playoffs, he played in 20 games, collecting five points.

Trouba was drafted in the first round back in 2012 with the ninth overall pick by the Winnipeg Jets. He has played in 597 career NHL games with 62 goals and 195 assists for 257 points. He will be the 28th captain in Rangers history.
