With players reporting to camp and hitting the ice tomorrow, Toronto's 2022-2023 campaign "unofficially" gets underway.
This morning, The Toronto Maple Leafs took to twitter to reveal the roster for this year's training camp.
In total, there are 54 names on the training camp roster. It is comprised of 30 forwards, 17 defensemen and 7 goalies. It is worth noting that 4 players who are on this roster will not be joining their teammates on the ice tomorrow, as they are still nursing injuries – forwards Mikhail Abramov
and Pierre Engvall
, defenseman Timothy Liljegren
as well as goaltender Joseph Woll
The finalized list can be seen below.
One notable name that has been left off this roster is the team's 2018 first round draft selection, Rasmus Sandin. It appears that negotiations between Dubas and Sandin's camp are still underway, which has led many Leafs fans questioning whether or not the two parties will come to terms before the season is set to kickoff on October 12th, when the Buds head to Montreal to take on the Canadiens. Hopefully the two sides get this issue resolved quickly – I really don't want to see this play out the same way it did for William Nylander
back in 2018, when stalled contract talks left the Swedish forward sidelined until December, which had a detrimental impact on his performance that season.
Keefe and company surely have their work cut out for them as they look to trim the fat and have a finalized roster ready to go for October 12th. Over the next few weeks, expect to see the coaching staff experiment with all sorts of different line combinations and defensive pairings as they try to see who plays best together. Who knows, maybe this training camp will lead to some new, undiscovered chemistry amongst players.
WILL WE SEE SANDIN INK A DEAL AND JOIN THE LEAFS AT CAMP THIS WEEK?
