The Seattle Kraken debut strange new mascot

The Seattle Kraken did not have a mascot during their inaugural season in 2021-22, so naturally, they felt the need to create one for the 2022-23 season. Well, they did just that and had "Buoy" the Troll debut before Saturday's preseason game.

It might seem strange that the Kraken chose a troll, of all creatures, to represent the franchise. Apparently, though, there is some significance there. The Kraken chose to use a troll because of a famous sculpture under a Seattle bridge that has been a landmark for the past 32 years - the Fremont Troll. The sculpture was featured in blockbuster hits The Twilight Saga and Sleepless in Seattle.

The Seattle Kraken's chief marketing officer Katie Townsend issued the following statement on the unveiling of Seattle's new mascot on Saturday:

"We are proud to introduce Buoy and mark another milestone moment for the Seattle Kraken. We are rooted in the local community and everything we do is inspired by the wonderful place we live. Buoy was inspired by the Fremont Troll and is a big fan of the Seattle music scene!"
