Former player finally reveals the nature of William Nylander's injury

The Maple Leafs have still not given us any information about what William Nylander's actual injury is. Thankfully, a former player has stepped up and shared some information that he was able to dig up on Nylander's injury.

Former St. Louis Blues defenseman Jordan Schmaltz is no longer an active player, but he has kept himself in the loop in the hockey world.

There's no question that after playing parts of 3 NHL seasons and spending a short time with the Leafs' AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, have allowed him to make important connections, so he does have some sources.

What type of injury is William Nylander dealing with?

As we now know, Nylander has missed Games 1 and 2 against the Boston Bruins with a mystery injury. On Monday, Schmaltz actually revealed what the nature of the injury is, according to his sources.



Obviously, Schmaltz didn't get into the specifics of what he has heard, but we now know that the injury is an "upper-body ailment" and that the injury came as a result of a hit that he took against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the final game of the season.

Nylander is an important player for the Leafs. It's good to know that he's been back skating with the team and that he's making strides towards returning. Hopefully, that return occurs in Game 3 tomorrow night, but we'll have to wait and see.
