Habs reportedly reject an overpay for overrated winger

In October 2020, Josh Anderson signed a 7-year, $38.5 million contract with the Montreal Canadiens and, unfortunately, hasn't had much to show for it. The 28-year-old winger currently has 17 points in 47GP this season. Since signing with the Habs, Anderson's best season was last year when he collected 32 points over 69GP.

Anderson has a knack for being a fan favourite despite his low production, as seen in Montreal and during his time in Columbus, and his skill makes him an appealing trade piece. However, the Habs have recently rejected a decent offer for him.

Is Anderson worth a 1st round draft pick? No, not in my opinion. But what's even more surprising is how Montreal turned down such an offer - especially during a bit of a rebuilding phase.

Despite having his long history of injuries, Anderson is one of the few healthy stars remaining on the Habs' current injury-plagued roster. Montreal also has the most challenging schedule out of all 32 teams for the remainder of the season, which could have something to do with the decision to reject the trade offer. After all, even when you're rebuilding, you still need bodies on the ice every night.
